Death and Dying

An affecting, intriguing documentary of a brain tumor patient's terminal illness experience, this video takes the unusual perspective of viewing Joyce Fulton's final journey in reverse chronological order. The initial segment is of loved ones gathering at her bedside shortly before her death, followed by a segment filmed 2 weeks earlier, then 2 months, eventually going back to the period just after her diagnosis and prior to surgery 2 years before, showing Ms. Fulton as an apparently healthy, strong and spunky woman. Along the way, we are given vicarious glimpses of her own and her loved ones' attempts to deal with the diagnosis, with the arcane medical system, and of course with her ultimate death. They do so with an admirable courage, humor and palpable love. Although relatively short and unelaborate, this composite vignette could find a good fit in workshops for professionals and laymen alike.
